Indycar Series to use pure ethanol for the 2007 season
Alternative fuels have received much attention lately because of the growing awareness of global warming and the dedication of the Government of the United States to reduce dependence on foreign oil. Several companies in the industry of alternative fuels have made great leap in the development of fuels that can be substituted for gasoline.
Biodiesel is an alternative fuels being developed with ethanol. Currently, there are already cars and vehicles on the road that run on fuel composed of ethanol and gasoline. The use of ethanol is largely supported by the government since it is proven to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas emissions.
Recently, ethanol as a substitute for gasoline, has found a new ally in the shape of the IndyCar Series. The single-seater racing series highlighted by the famous Indianapolis 500 will use pure ethanol as fuel for next season.
The series will be the history of motor sport when he opened the season with the XM Indy Satellite Radio 300 on March 24 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race series will be the first motorsports that will use pure ethanol as fuel for the 3.5 provided Honda Indy V8. Sport will be setting a record for a series of races using a renewable fuel that is a step towards the greening races.
Ethanol replaces methanol, which served as the fuel of choice for the series for over forty years. Champion Tony Kanaan the series in 2004, has this to say about the use of ethanol: "The IndyCar Series jump to ethanol has been great. We're definitely on track with ethanol. There is more power with the new (3.5-liter Honda Indy V-8) engine. It runs clean it is better for the environment. So a win-win, and that is great for the series. Ethanol is another alternative to gasoline. If we can show that the IndyCar Series cars can run ethanol, then it is good for street cars throughout the world. "
Using ethanol in vehicles such as those used in the races is a good choice because the fuel has characteristics that agree on the need for more power from these cars. Ethanol has an octane rating higher than methanol. This means that ethanol is more resistant than the premature explosion of methanol used previously.
premature detonation reduces the amount of energy per volume of fuel. Knocking also increases fuel consumption because the engine needs to compensate for the loss power by providing more fuel to burn.
In the case of high performance vehicles, the 113 octane rating of ethanol is more desirable compared to the 107 octane rating of methanol. The fact that ethanol comes from renewable agricultural products that are added to the call fuel as a substitute for gasoline and in the case of the race, methanol.
For all the power supplied by ethanol, it produces less emissions than gasoline or methanol. The cool looking cars in the series, but without the headlights that makes them not be applicable to this title = "Lund Look"> Lund Look for Xenon High quality, are driven at speeds over 230 miles per hour without doubt necessary additional power from ethanol.
The efficiency and cleanliness of the ethanol has really been a good ally in the form of the series. The cars have more power while producing less harmful emissions. And this means that the two popular racing series, the alternative fuel industry and the environment and the public will benefit from this action of IndyCar.
